Arunachal bags 8 medals in the National Tribal Sports Meet

AVP facilitates medal winners

ITANAGAR, Jan 05: Arunachal Pradesh bagged eight medals, including 2 gold, in the National Tribal Sports Meet organized by Vanvasi Kalyan Kendra in Ranchi from December 28 to 31, 2015.

Nyaku Karlo and Limo Lollen won the gold medals in Long Jump and Shot Put in Sub-Junior and Junior Boys category respectively.

Anung Wangsu won silver medal in 3000M race in Senior Girls category.

The second silver medal came from archery event.

The trio of Nabam Anjala, Nabam Jirma and Bengia won the second silver for the state in Archery Sub-Junior Girl’s group event.

The bronze medalist were, Tadap Pujen, 1500M race (senior boys), Yinya Lombi, 800M race (junior boys), Limar Geyi, Shot Put (Sub-Junior boys) and Delin Dabi, Long Jump (Junior boys).

A total of 120 athletes from Arunachal Pradesh participated in the Sports Meet. They were selected from around 700 athletes in a selection camp conducted by Arunachal Vikas Parishad at Doimukh. Prior to this AVP had organized sports competition in 118 circles of 19 districts.

Meanwhile, AVP has felicitated all the medal winning players.

 

 

Lifter Deru buried with bouquets and garlands

ITANAGAR, Jan 05: Pride of Arunachal Jimjang Deru, who has made the state and country extremely proud through his splendid performances at national and international level events in the recent times, was accorded a hero’s welcome on his return to his home state at Naharlagun today by the sports fraternity.

Jimjang was accompanied by his Olympian Coach DD Sharma from Patiala, Punjab.

Piles of garlands and bouquets presented by members of state’s various sports associations and well wishers led by Arunachal Weightlifting Association General Secretary Daniel Teli buried him on his arrival at Naharlagun Railway Station after two years.

Present on the spot, among others, were Langkung Marik, General Secretary, Arunachal Karate Association, Yarda Niki, Vice-President, Arunachal Karate Association, Tarak Tagin Tarh, General Secretary Arunachal Taekwondo Association and Kipa Ajay, Asst. General Secretary of Arunachal Football Association and hosts of sportspersons.

Jimjang is currently ranked No.1 in national, Asian and Commonwealth weightlifting rankings in his weight category (56kg).

He also holds the Youth National, Asian and Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship titles.

He is the country’s only sub-junior athlete to accumulate 24 points for the country at recently held Senior World Weightlifting Championship in Houston, USA.

Meanwhile, Jimjang has decided to skip the upcoming Youth and Junior National Championship scheduled to be held from January 22 to 26 at Patna, Bihar to give the juniors a chance to showcase their talents.

 

 

Fire devours 2 houses

ITANAGAR, Jan 05:  Two dwelling houses and one stationery shop were burnt down in a fire accident broke out at around 3 am at Rayo village, Ward No 29, Nirjuli.

Properties including valuable local ornaments worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the fire, informed All Nirjuli Youth Organization.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electric short-circuit.

The association appealed to the authorities concerned to provide immediate relief to the victims.

 

 

Navdanya foresees Arunachal as organic state

RUKSIN, Jan 05: As a part of its ongoing efforts to promote organic farming in Arunachal Pradesh, Siang Tea Industries Ltd organized a workshop on organic farming for the farmers at Sille-Oyan Circle Office premise today.

Addressing the workshop, founder of Navdanya -- a network for organic farming and biodiversity conservation -- Dr Vandana Shiva encouraged the farmers to switch to organic farming.

Organic farming produces more nutritious food while maintaining the soil health, said Dr Vandana.

Highlighting the benefits of consuming organic food, she said that various diseases like diabetes, cancer, hypertension, infertility, heart attacks are caused by consumption of foods which are produced using inorganic or chemical fertilizer and pesticides.

Dr. Vandana informed that the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in crop fields were introduced after the World War-II.

Terming the chemical fertilizers and pesticides as “active poison”, she affirmed that chemical pesticides can not control pest/insect population, rather it cause several health problems by killing the useful/protecting microorganisms.

She also urged the farmers for preservation of local varieties of food plants, improving for mining technology and bringing innovation in farming to ensure higher production.

Dr Vandana informed that her mission was formulating ‘Arunachal Organic Policy’ and requested the local people to find the ways of its successful implementation.  She was optimistic that Arunachal will be the first organic state in the region.

Dr. Vandana also urged the local people to find ways for successful implementation of the “Arunachal Organic Policy’ being  formulated under the mission.

Managing Director of Siang Tea Industries Ltd, Omak Apang requested the farmers to learn about organic farming to ensure healthy food and control land degradation. Stating that his mission is tirelessly working to bring about an organic revolution in the state, he urged the panchayat leaders, government officers and NGOs to chalk out a joint strategy of organic farming in the region. The Siang Tea is organizing more such programme at Pasighat and Ruksin circles under East Siang district on January 6 and 7 next.

Navdanya is a Delhi based institution of Seed Keepers and Organic Producers spread its network in 18 states across the country. It helps in setting up of Community Seed Bank and gives training to the farmers on seed sovereignty, food sovereignty, and sustainable agriculture. It is actively involved in the rejuvenation of indigenous knowledge and culture.

Navdanya means “nine seeds” (symbolizing protection of biological and cultural diversity).

 

 

Capital road repairing works in doldrums as the labourers run way

ITANAGAR, Jan 05: In a shocking incident, all the labourers engaged in repairing cum re-carpeting of the Capital road run away last night without informing contractor and concern PWD officials. This sudden turn of event has further delayed the already delayed road maintenance scheme. No official reason has been cited but it is believed that labourers run away after being threatened by some anti-social elements who are trying to disrupt the road repairing work. While confirming the incident Chief Engineer Highway Bora Ete informed that he has no knowledge about the exact cause of incident. He also added that contractor is reorganizing his team and work remains suspended for now.

When contacted Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi expressed sadness over the incident and assured that administration will take strong action against those anti-social elements disrupting the work. Negi who is personally monitoring the progress of work, also informed that administration will provide police security to the labourers when the work resumes.

This latest incident has come as major setback for PWD (Highway) which has already been drawing flak for failing to repair Itanagar-Banderdewa stretch of national highway.

The PWD is going to carry out road repairing cum re-carpeting work of 17 kilometer on the highway in Nirjuli, Naharlagun and Itanagar township area. Even though the tender was awarded way back in October 2015 itself, the progress of work has been extremely slow. Till now contractor has failed to repair even 1 KM stretch.  It looks like the woes of capital dwellers will not end soon and they will have to continue the battle against bad road.

Meanwhile, All Arunachal Contractor’s Welfare Association (AACWA) has requested the executing agency of EE PWD Nirjuli Highway division for early completion of the National Highway works in between Itanagar to Banderdewa, while facilitating safety and security to contractors working during night time.

In a release, AACWA also called for curing with water twice a day to control the dust caused by the filling and lying of sand and dust in the road works.

Further, AACWA has urged those organizations to restrain from making demands for stopping of contractor bills due to the political crisis. It added that some genuine contractors have completed their works and their payment should be released properly.

 

 

HC stays disqualification of 14 dissident MLAs

GUWAHATI, Jan 05: The Gauhati High Court today stayed the disqualification of 14 dissident Congress MLAs from Arunachal Pradesh Assembly by Speaker Nabam Rebia during the state's political crisis in December.

Justice B K Sharma, hearing a writ petition stayed the speaker's order disqualifying the MLAs on December 15 and issued notice to the respondents.

He fixed January 7 as the next date of hearing.

The writ was filed by dissident Congress MLAs Pema Khandu and 13 of his colleagues, who were disqualified by Rebia under 10th Schedule of Constitution.

They contended that the order of disqualification was passed by the speaker in violation of natural justice without giving them an opportunity of hearing.

A political crisis was triggered in Arunachal Pradesh in December with 21 of the 47 Congress MLAs in the 60-member house, along with 11 BJP and two Independent MLAs, extending support to dissident Congress leader Kalikho Pul.

Pul was elected the 'chief minister' in a session, advanced by Governor J P Rajkhowa to December 16 from January 14, and held in makeshift premises.

Rebia had then filed a petition challenging the governor's notification of December 9 advancing the assembly session and also the notification issued by Deputy Speaker T Norbu Thondok revoking the suspension of 14 MLAs.

The writ petition had also challenged the order of the Deputy Speaker for holding of the session at a new place and the decision(s) of the December 16 session.

Justice Hrishikesh Roy after hearing the case on December 17 had issued notice and in the interim kept in abeyance the impugned decisions of the assembly passed in the session on December 16 and had fixed the case for hearing on February 1.

A batch of Interlocutory Applications has also been filed in the high court by Deputy Speaker and some MLAs to vacate or modify the court's earlier order of keeping the assembly's December 16 proceedings in abeyance. PTI

 

 

Tuki calls on PM, submits report on state’s political development

NEW DELHI, Jan 05: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at New Delhi today at the latter’s 7 Race Course Road Residence and submitted a detailed report on the recent political developments in the wake of the unilateral and unconstitutional orders of the Governor to pre-pone the Assembly Session.

While mentioning that this matter is sub-judice and is being heard in the Guwahati High Court, the Chief Minister said that this decision by the Governor was taken without taking him and his council of Ministers into confidence. The Chief Minister aired his grievances to the Prime Minister on the conduct of the Governor since his assumption of office and his tacit role in fuelling dissidence within the ruling Congress Party in the state.

In the comprehensive report submitted to the Prime Minister on the Governor’s anti-development activities, the Chief Minister also told Modi that the Governor’s conduct was in violation of the principles of Co-operative Federalism as espoused by the Prime Minister after the NDA came into power. Tuki also told the Prime Minister about the apprehensions and confusions created by the Governor in the minds of the public.

The Prime Minister assured Tuki that he would examine the report against the Governor and take appropriate decisions pertaining to the same.

 While discussing the developmental issues, the Chief Minister  also requested the Prime Minister for expediting the important projects in the state which included establishment of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi, early establishment of Disaster Response Force ( DRF) Battalion, establishment of High Court in the state  and East West Industrial Corridor for border areas.

The Chief Minister apprised the PM that despite repeated requests from the State Government; the Centre is yet to depute a Central team for inspecting the damages due to floods and natural calamities. The Prime Minister assured that a team will be deputed soon to visit the state for the same.  It may be mentioned that the State Government had recently sought a Special Package for FDR from the Union Home Ministry.

The Prime Minister also took stock of the recent earthquake in the NE region and was informed that no casualties or damages were reported in Arunachal Pradesh so far. Media Cell, CMO)

 

 

Capital DC reviews law and order situation

ITANAGAR, Jan 05: Itanagar Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Mige Kamki in a meeting with the Executive Magistrates and Police today reviewed the law and order situation in the Capital Complex.

The meeting held a threadbare discussion on the law and order situation as well as measures to be taken to effectively enforce law and order.

The DC briefed on the powers and functions of the Executive Magistrates and the Police and stressed that it is the duty of the District Administration including the Police to ensure peace and tranquility within their jurisdiction. The DC further asked them to work in coordination with each other. The DC cum DM also issued an order under section 144 CrPC prohibiting carrying of Dao, Firearms, sticks, lathis and other lethal weapons in the Capital Complex with immediate effect.

Arrest leaders of organizations seeking non-release of HTS bill payment: PDS transporters

ITANAGAR, Jan 05: Following demand for non-release of PDS/HTS bill payment by various organizations, the All Arunachal Pradesh PDS Transporters’ Welfare Association today alleged that it is being deprived of its HTS bill payment because of the demand. It has written to the home minister and demanded for the immediate arrest of the president and secretaries of the concern organizations.

It claimed that no HTS payments have been made to the genuine carriage contractors except payments made through the directives of the High Court and Supreme Court. The association further said that the people demanding for the non-release of the payments are disturbing the senior bureaucrats and threatening them with dire consequences.

“We have been deprived of HTS bill payment due to the false allegations leveled by the lesser known organizations particularly headed  by the Lokam Tassar, Kipa Kanam, Toko Obi, Tai Taley, Biri Kakum, Tame Phassang and their associates. These people have been threatening to burn down the directorate of Food & Civil Supplies, sending legal notice with false allegations, threatening SMS, making threatening phone calls and disrupting the senior public servants in discharging their duties.  This has resulted into delay in clearing of HTS payment to the genuine contractors/transporters.  Their unruly behavior has forced senior bureaucrats to take mass casual leave causing untold miseries to the hardworking genuine contractors and common masses. We demand immediate arrest of Lokam Tassar, Tame Phassang, Kipa Kanam, Tai Taley, Toko Obi and Biri Kakum,” the association said in a representation to Home Minister. Demanding their arrest within 24 hours, the association warned that they will be bound to resort to boycott and disruption of Supplies of Essential Commodities particularly food grains,  refilled LPG cylinders and PoL items to all the districts and interiors across Arunachal Pradesh. “On our repeated request and representation the state Govt considered making part payment to all the genuine and non-litigation contractors in order to avoid collapse of PDS network in the state. It was decided in cabinet meeting held on 2nd November 2015. The bills submitted by Deputy Commissioners have been scrutinized by board of officers and processed for making payment and thereafter to claim re-imbursement from Govt of India as per recommendation of Saumitra Choudhuri Report. The said committee was constituted by Govt of India during year 2007. But now genuine contractors are not being paid due to allegation leveled by few people,” they added.

The association also demanded immediate inquiry into the alleged gross misuse of official positions by Lokam Tassar as Parliamentary Secretary, Food & Civil Supplies and Tax & excise during the year 2009 to 2014. The association alleged that he has illegally appointed carriage contractors without floating tenders and diverted PDS items to his preferred districts, contractors and whole sellers in lieu of financial gratifications. Massive illegal appointments of officers/officials in both the departments were made violating recruitment rules and established procedures during his tenure as Parliamentary secretaries of said departments, the representation added.  The Association also demanded enquiry into the alleged mismanagement of funds under Bamboo Mission by Tame Phassang during the tenure of Dorjee Khandu government.

 

 

Bakin Pertin remembered

PASIGHAT, Jan 05: The 19th death anniversary of visionary leader Bakin Pertin was observed in his Mirbuk residence with great enthusiasm today.

More than 100 people gathered for the solemn occasion, offered floral tribute and had a condolence prayer in the memory of the great leader.

KEK President Tokbom Perme remembered contributions of Bakin for development of society, state and the nation while Onyok Pertin highlighted the life history.

Among others, Tatdo Borang, Dr. Dangi Perme, Oling Ratan, Advocate Tonning Pertin, Todol  Petin, Tokmem Pertin Loyi and Orin Ratan also spoke on the occasion.

Late Bakin Pertin is known as philosopher, thinker, visionary person and “Political Guru” of many renowned leaders of Arunachal Pradesh. He was born on May 1, 1942 in Damro village (Presently Upper Siang) and later permanently settled at Mirbuk village, Pasighat in the year 1997.

Pertin completed his middle standard education in English Missionary School, Sadiya in 1949 and admitted in Pasighat Govt. High School in 1954. Pertin studied at St. Edmund's College in Shillong and Delhi College in Delhi. Pertin began his political activities during his student life. In 1959 the All NEFA Students Union (later renamed as the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union) was founded, with Pertin as its general secretary. He worked at the news division of All India Radio between 1964 and 1969. He was a member of Damro Gram Panchayat, Maryiang Anchal Samiti and Siang Zilla Parishad. In 1974 he became the general secretary of the Bogum Bokang Kebang (the highest tribal authority of the Adi people). In 1975 he became the vice-president of the Siang Zilla Parishad.

After being elected to the Lok Sabha in 1977, Pertin founded the People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) and became the president of the new party. He also contested the 1984 Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly election as PPA candidate in the Meriyang-Mebo constituency and won.

Pertin died in 1996 at the age of 53.

 

 

Irked with power failure, people demand action against hydel staff

ITANAGAR, Jan 05: The public of Mechukha have urged the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) to take stern action against the absentee staff of Lhallung Power Station saying that entire Mechukha town has been reeling under darkness since December 26 last due to dereliction of duty by the staff.

While condemning the absenteeism of staff and officials of Lhallung Power Station,  which is the only source of electricity in the entire Mechukha town, the public of Mechukha in a complaint lodged with the ADC said “If  the  staff and officials of power station are not willing to work they should be terminated from their post and local unemployed youths of area should be engaged.

Reportedly, on December 26 last the power supply in entire Mechukha town abruptly went off without any reason. When infuriated public went to check out the exact cause of power failure  at Lhallung Power Station they found that the power station was locked up from outside.

It is reported that when the matter was inquired the villagers revealed that the lone operator, who was engaged at the hydel station, locked up the power station and left for home as he was unable to run the hydel station alone.

According to the sources, out of total 21 staff including a Junior Engineer deployed at Lhallung Power Station, only two staffs are somehow running the power station till date and whereabouts of the remaining staff are not known.

 

 

CM assures enhancing fund allocation for entrepreneurs

ITANAGAR, Jan 05: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has assured to enhance fund allocation for incentives to existing and upcoming enterprises and subsidy to unemployed engineers for setting up of micro and small enterprises in manufacturing and service sectors, informed Industries director Taru Talo in a release today.   Talo  said incentives and  subsidy will now be enhanced to Rs one crore and Rs 15 crores respectively from Rs 50 lakhs and Rs 10 crores earmarked earlier.

He further informed that the incentives will include preparation of detailed project report, quality control and 30 percent subsidy on plant and machinery/power subsidy upto ceiling of Rs five lakhs and as per norms of state industry policy. Under chief minister’s scheme for unemployed engineers, subsidy up to ceiling of Rs 10 lakhs will be made available for project cost upo Rs 25 lakhs in which the beneficiary will contribute 10 percent of the project cost and the remaining will be bank loan component. Guidelines for both the schemes have already been approved and the process of implementation is underway, the release said.

The government has already approved Rs 5 crores for infrastructure development of industrial growth Centre at Niglok-Ngorlung in East Siang district. With this, the department is expecting that the industrial activities are likely to increase more intensely. One mineral water packaging unit is now almost at the launching stage, Talo further said  adding also the department has started allotting land to new entrepreneurs.

A plot of land has been allotted to power grid through department of power for setting up of a power-sub-station. The process of setting up of power sub-station is in full swing. In addition, setting up of 9 megawatt solar power plant in the growth centre is also under process, the release added.

 

 

Massive traffic awareness campaign launched

PASIGHAT, Jan 05: With increasing road accidents in Pasighat Township becoming a major concern, East Siang district administration has started a special awareness campaign among the masses about traffic rules and road safety.

East Siang Deputy Commissioner Isha Khosla formally launched a four-day long Traffic Awareness Campaign on on Jan 4 attended by PMC Chief Councilor, Denong Tamuk, MEO (PMC), Deepak Shinde, DTO (Tpt) Chakfa Wangsu, OC Traffic, ABS Ahmed and NCC volunteers.

Traffic police and NCC volunteers of DEM and IGJ Higher Secondary schools guided the commuters about the traffic rules at the main market area.

DC Isha Khosla appealed public to support the campaign and make Pasighat an accident free town.  She added that the massive exercise aims at inculcating awareness and interest among young residents so that they take all care to follow rules and regulations when they attain adulthood and become a responsible citizen. Si-Donyi greetings

ITANAGAR, Jan 05: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh JP Rajkhowa and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki have extended greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Si-Donyi festival, the most important festival of the Tagin community.

In his message, the Governor said that ‘Si’ signifies the earth and ‘Donyi’ is the sun. Since time immemorial, these natural elements play a vital role in the day-to-day life of the people. It is believed that existence of human being and all living things on earth, their health, development and evolution depend on it. Thus, the celebration symbolizes the prayers to the Almighty for wellbeing of all. While expressing hope that the tradition, which has been handed down the generations,  will invoke blessing of Almighty Gods and Goddesses, the Governor further offered prayers to the Almighty Si Donyi to protect all from diseases and natural calamities. He also prayed for peace, progress, communal harmony and good harvest.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki also wished the people on the auspicious occasion. ‘I join my Tagin brothers and sisters on this joyous occasion and am optimistic that the festival would foster peace and communal harmony in the state as it always has,’ Tuki said in his message. He further expressed belief that the celebration would strengthen the bond with the rich indigenous traditions and modernity.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister called upon the people to remain alert and follow stipulated guidelines to thwart any untoward incident in case of natural calamities like the recent earthquake that emanated from Manipur causing loss of lives and properties. JAC condemns demands made in rally  

ITANAGAR, Jan 05: The Jan Andolan Committee (JAC) of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Arunachal Pradesh has condemned the demand of the Arunachal People’s Rally for the recall of Governor.

Stating it uncalled for, the JAC termed the decision of pre-poning the Assembly session as valid and constitutional. The Governor had pre-poned the Assembly session as per the provisions of the Constitution. The Governor has the discretion to call Assembly session if he is satisfied that there is enough ground to do so, it added.

Further, the JAC stated that the student leaders who attended the rally have taken the side of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and condemned Minister of State (Home) Kiren Rijiju without valid reason but just to please Nabam Tuki. One should know that Kiren Rijiju was appointed as MoS Home to work for the welfare of the North East in particular and for the nation as a whole but not for the cause of any individual, dynasty or for a particular community, added the release.

The release also said that the Nabam Tuki led government cannot claim the support of the public just by gathering few people from different parts of the state.

DC takes stock of renovation works of tourist lodge

ITANAGAR, Jan 05: Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Komkar Dulom on Sunday visited Mell Botom Tourist Lodge at Daporijo and took stock of the progress of the ongoing renovation works of the tourist lodge.

Dulom suggested for keeping provision of an additional room in the lodge for arrangement of decorative items, including mementoes, still photographs etc for both exhibition and commercial purposes.

The Deputy Commissioner and his family members visited the entire lodge premises and were excited to see the avenue plantation, particularly the tree planted by Dulom, which is growing well.

They advised the MD of Mell Botom Tourist Lodge Dosh Dasi to grow rose plants for further beautification and also fruit bearing trees like Papaya, Guava, and Pineapple in the lodge premise.

 

 

KVK Tirap conduct field day programme

ITANAGAR, Jan 05: Altogether 34 farmers including ASMs, GPMs, Gaon Burahs of Ottongkhoua and Noitong villages participated in a two days field day programme conducted in both the villages by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tirap. ‘Cluster Demonstration of Scientific Cultivation of Field pea, Variety: Prakash’ was conducted at Ottongkhoua on January 4 and ‘Cluster Demonstration of Scientific Cultivation of French bean, Variety: S-9’ at Noitong today under National Food Security Mission.

Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Agronomy Dr. Simanta Kumar Kalita, explained different aspects of scientific cultivation of field pea and French bean and its importance and scope among the farmers. He showed the superior results under scientific cultivation visually to the farmers in the demonstrated plots than traditional methods of cultivation.

A farmers’ scientist interaction was also organized in the villages wherein the resource persons answered queries of the farmers on field crop cultivation.

The KVK scientists also urged the farmers to take full benefit of the Kendra and assured to provide all the technical help for promoting better production in the villages.

 

 

Villages selected as Jal Grams for Jal Kranti Abhiyan

CHANGLANG, Jan 05: Old Dukpey village under Manmao CD Block and Neotan village under Miao-Khagam CD Block have been selected as Jal Grams for Jal Kranti Abhiyan in Changlang district.

The selection was done in a district level committee meeting to accelerate the activities of Jal Kranti Abhiyan in Changlang district at the Changlang Deputy Commissioner’s office today.

Addressing the meeting the Deputy Commissioner explained the guidelines of the Abhiyan and expressed the need of selecting two Jal Grams among the water-stressed villages in the district on priority basis. DIPRO

 

 

Relief distributed

PASIGHAT, Jan 05:  Relief materials like utensils and blankets were distributed to three fire- affected households of Banskota here by the Mandal President Obit Tamuk and Ward-5 municipal councilor Kaling Doruk on behalf of MLA Moyong on Sunday.

The victims have lost all their belongings in a fire incident which reportedly broke out at the three rented rooms on Saturday. (DIPRO)

 

 

Financial assistance sought

ITANAGAR, Jan 05:  Claiming that a MIBT house belonging to casual labourers at Aniya village, Nirjuli had been completely destroyed in a fire which broke out at around 3 am today, the All Arunachal Labour Union (AAPLU) has in separate releases to both Capital Complex DC and Food & Civil Supplies & Cooperation Parliamentary Secretary-cum-Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, Chairman, today appealed to him to provide immediate financial assistance from the APB&OCWWB to the victims as they are registered workers under the Board.

ITANAGAR, Jan 5: Informing that the residence of one Tarh Palang of Press Colony was completely gutted and properties worth lakhs destroyed in a fire incident recently, the Press Colony Welfare Committee - Papu Nallah (PCWCPN) has in a representation to the Director Disaster Management, Itanagar today, appealed to him to grant financial assistance to the victim at the earliest.

Pathankot terror attack will test Indo-Pak relation

Just when the peace process between India and Pakistan were getting on right track, the Pathankot terror attack has came as major setback. Initial lead points to the involvement of ISI and Pakistan based Jaish-E-Mohammed. This new development has dampened the spirit of bonhomie which prevailed for some days following the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Lahore to meet his counterpart Nawaz Sharif.  However in a positive note Pakistan assured to look into the leads provided by India and assured to take action.

Prime Minister Nawaz Shariff made a phone call to Modi and assured that his government would take prompt and decisive action against the terrorists. On his part Modi asked his Pak counterpart to take firm and immediate action against all those responsible for Pathankot terror attacks. This fresh approach by Pakistan is a welcome one and should help to ease the tension on both the sides. On earlier occasions Pakistan straightway uses to deny involvement of its people in the terror incident even if India provides clear evidence. However India will closely monitor the action taken by Pakistan and that will determine the future course of action. Repeatedly in the past Pakistan has failed to live upto its promise and has bitterly failed India on many occasion. Also many questions are being raised over the Pathankot operation. Many security lapses have been exposed. Even defence Minister Manohar Parrikar agreed to this and assured that some gaps related to security will be cleared after the investigation. It looks like government has not learned lesson from Mumbai incident and continues to bungle in dealing with terror attacks. This is worrisome and need serious introspection.

Nehru’s legacy

The recent debacle in India regarding a Congress mouthpiece questioning Nehru’s wrong foreign policies that has cost India heavily in border negotiations with China should be reviewed with a positive outlook. The Indian National Congress may have their personal discomfort with the content of the article for political reasons; however, one must not downplay the importance of the questions raised in the article from historical and diplomatic perspectives. Nehru has always been heaped with unjustified praises by Indian historians and intellectuals for his role as a national leader with often no due credits being given to other outstanding national leaders like Patel, Kalam and others who also had giant contributions in transforming India into a modern nation. It is a matter of gross historic injustice for not giving enough credits to the pioneer architects of modern India other than Nehru. One must accept the fact that numerous foreign policy blunders made by an immature Nehru during his reign have resulted in perpetual problems with neighboring nations with respect to international border negotiations; and even in severely compromising Indian claims as exemplified by the Kashmir and Tibet border conflicts. While Nehru is credited so much for his achievements, he should also be made equally responsible for the blunders he made by not listening to other members of his cabinet including Patel on several matters that has cost India dearly and made several Indians suffer for generations. The unfortunate death of Patel within few years of independence allowed Nehru to push forward with his erroneous domestic and international policies as there was none in his cabinet to confront him politically and thus gave rise to generations of sycophants within Congress that has now started harming the party dearly. There is no problem in respecting an individual but that respect should not transform into cult worship for political gains when his policies have severely compromised and jeopardized the long term national interests.

Effects of global warming

We have been hearing about global warming for several years now. Research has shown that the Earth’s average surface temperature has raised 1º F in the past century, with the most significant temperature increase occurring in the past 2 decades.

Why is this happening? The root of it is that by burning more and more fossil fuels we are releasing more greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxides into the atmosphere, which in turn trap more heat. These gases act just as the glass in a greenhouse does. The glass in a greenhouse allows light energy into the structure and that light is converted to heat energy, which cannot pass back through the glass. Therefore the heat is trapped and as more light energy enters and is converted to heat energy, temperatures continue to rise. This is why  the polar regions of Arctic and Antarctica are experiencing drastic changes. Due to rising temperatures, 9% of sea ice is being permanently lost per decade. With the disappearance of  ice , polar bears are simultaneously losing access to their main food source i.e the ring seals. Thus, they have less energy to travel, hunt and reproduce successfully. The average weight of polar bears has got dropped by 15%, causing reproduction rates to decline. The population of polar bears in Hudson Bay(Canada) has declined by more than 20%. US Geological Survey has predicted that two-thirds of the polar bear population will disappear by 2050. The thinning ice can be an obstacle in travel as well. Distances between solid ice patches can grow too large for bears, and especially their cubs, to swim when trying to return to their natural home. Polar bears are top predators in the simple food web that exists in this extreme environment, so effects on their population should be taken as a warning. Population in some North American species are already getting killed due to changing temperatures. The Pika, a close relative of the rabbit found in mountain habitat, prefers cool moist climates and as temperatures rise they are being forced to migrate across low elevation valleys, with high risk, to reach higher ground.

So, to ensure the survival of earth and animal diversity,  it remains the responsibility of each of us to contribute significantly for reducing greenhouse gases by taking important steps such as saving energy, planting trees, recycling household waste, buying recycled products and washing clothes in cold water, unplugging the charger and turning off electronic items when not in use. Else, a huge amount of Carbon Dioxide gets released which pollutes the air and is responsible for Global Warming. And obeying these steps will reduce the Global Warming to a great extent.

A part of the Godly Creation is a human. The intangible intelligence and the physicality powered and driven are just an innate part of the godly intelligence which drives the whole Creation.

Human body along with the soul and mind in totality is an absolutely intelligent system. It evolves continuously and simultaneously along with the processes of infinite moments of evolution in the Creation. This system has great power to continuously remain happy and vibrant, to heal and rejuvenate itself, to remain at deep tranquility, to know beforehand the nature of ensuing future moments and many things..

There lies a state of Super-consciousness  deep within every human which if awakened has the power and intelligence to do all sorts of magical wonders to keep oneself happy, healthy and harmonious all along in life..

The magic is to discover and unwind the hidden Universe of Super-consciousness and Super-intelligence which resides deep within oneself..

Spend on social security

Dear Editor,

The decision to deny LPG subsidy to those who have taxable income of more than ten lakh is welcome. However, the saved amount which is going to be Rs 432 crore per year should be spent on social security. Ours is a ludicrous system where bulk of the subsidy is dished out to the creamy layer. Amartya Sen said, "Reading the papers and hearing broadcasts, you would think that it is subsidy for the poor- food and employment- that strains India's public resources, even though more than twice as much public funds are spent in subsidiziing the better off". In India, the money does not trickle down from the rich but pumps up to the rich until they vomit it to some foreign banks. The whole subsidy should, entirely, go to the poor instead of a thin one third slice as they are getting now. It will improve India's poor standing in Human Development Index ( 135th- dwarf at present!). If the lot of the majority of our population is improved then it will certainly increase their purchasing power which in turn gives a huge flip to our market and Indian economy as a whole.
